(Tommy) Edwin graduated from Sopchoppy High School in 1949. After working in Pennsylvania and Kentucky, he returned to Florida, joined the Tallahassee Fire Department, and married his childhood sweetheart, Bettye Carraway. He was a member of the Tallahassee Fire Department for 41 years, retiring as Battalion Chief in 1991. While on active duty as a fireman, he was also your friendly Fuller Brush representative for 59 years. Edwin was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and later of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.
Edwin was preceded in death by his three brothers, Laurice, Eli, and Otha, and his three sisters, Thalmadge Crum, Dalley Waters, Lossie Stubbs, and his daughter, Dorothy Roberts.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Bettye Roberts, daughters, Linda Roberts Champion; Cheryl Roberts Rowland (Brian); son, Tommy Edwin Roberts, Jr. (Janie); and son-in-law, Douglas Bruce, all of Tallahassee. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren: Jamie Champion Mongiovi (Joseph); Morgan Champion Dickinson (Christian); Thomas Roberts (Sarah); Jonathan Roberts; Lawson Roberts (Shelby); Marshall Roberts; Will Bruce (Jennifer); Rachel Bruce Cummons (Brian); 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Crum of Quincy; Carolyn Suiter (Galen) of Quincy; Susan Limbaugh (Gary) of Crawfordville; two brothers-in-law, George Carraway (Jill) of Westminster, South Carolina; David Carraway (Charlie) of Sopchoppy; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home at 1737 Riggins Road in Tallahassee on February 5, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. ET.
A funeral service will be held at Sopchoppy United Methodist Church at 10 Faith Avenue in Sopchoppy on February 6, 2024, at 11 :00 a.m. ET, with burial following the service at the West Sopchoppy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sopchoppy United Methodist Church.
