Roy “Scott” McNutt died June 7, 2024 with his beloved wife, Julie Humphreys, at his side. He is also survived by daughter, Elizabeth Bolfing and her husband Chris; son Colin McNutt and his wife Adrienne; daughter of the heart, Julianne Humphreys; daughter Angela Wallace and husband James; grandchildren Sophia Gauding-Bolfing, William (Liam) Wallace, Coleman (CJ) McNutt, Sebastian (Bas) Wallace, Flint Bolfing, and Murphy McNutt; brother Dr. Steven McNutt; brother Stan McNutt and his partner Anne; and a host of extended family. Scott was born in Marianna, Florida to Ronnie Coleman McNutt and Edna Kathryn Roberson. He was a sixth generation Floridian.
Scott grew up in Bartow, Florida and moved to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University where he earned a Master of Science. In his early career, Scott worked as an archeologist and as a defensive tactics trainer for the Department of Juvenile Justice. Scott was a gifted healer in his calling as a mental health counselor specializing in substance-abuse treatment. He was a Certified Addiction Professional and Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional. Scott was a skilled craftsman of traditional bows and expert flint worker. He eagerly shared his vast knowledge in many areas including archaeology, history, cultures, nature, Native American traditions, archery, flint working and family history. Scott found joy in sharing his knowledge as a reenactor and volunteer educator at Mission San Luis and the Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science. Scott was involved in White Earth Tribal Town in Blountstown, Florida, and a council member of the Muscogee Nation of Florida. Scott enjoyed competitive traditional archery and was a member of the Tallahassee Archery Club.
Scott took joy in and considered his vocation as husband, father, and grandfather paramount. He was a man of physical and spiritual strength, actively seeking communion with God and spending most of his life as a daily Communicant. Scott was a frequent, prayerful presence in the Catholic churches in the Tallahassee area.
Mass of The Resurrection will take place Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The McNutt/Humphreys Family invites all guests to a reception following for all to share memories of Scott.
