Roxane Freeman McGinniss

Born February 17, 1958, in Gainesville, Florida, Roxane was the daughter of University of Florida professor emeritus, Dr. Thomas Edward Freeman who has preceded her in death.

Roxane was exposed to culture and the arts by her mother Ruth Imogene Harrell Freeman. Roxane enjoyed a life-long pursuit of artistic creation. She most enjoyed the feel of making things with her hands.

Roxane graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from University of Florida in 1981. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from FSU in 1983. Roxane’s academic accomplishments earned her induction into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Roxane loved and married Peter John McGinniss in 1981 and moved with him to his home town of Tallahassee, Florida. With the births of daughter Whitney Lyn, and son Mason Thomas; homemaking and motherhood became Roxane’s primary focus. Roxane’s creativity was expressed in the design of two homes, creation of interior environments, landscaping, and teaching art both privately and publicly.

Roxane later discovered that the flowing nature of kiln-fired glass suited her artistic sensibilities. Roxane’s glass creations possess the preciously individual & luscious qualities of molten glass, cooled and captured while in fluid flow. With abstract sculptural properties, her works are dynamic, evolving with perspective and the shifting light of day. Roxane’s works have been displayed at local art galleries and in private collections.

Roxane enjoyed affiliations with: Southern Art Glass Alliance, The Artists’ League of the FSU Museum, Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery, LeMoyne Arts, Gadsden Arts, 1020 Art, 621 Gallery, as well as the Northshire Homeowners’ Association.

Roxane is also survived by her beloved brother Thomas Harrell Freemen, her cherished granddaughter Amelia Claire Biggers (daughter of Whitney), and loved dogs Bella & Cozmo. Roxane gifts and passions enriched the lives of her loved ones and friends. She is missed terribly. We mourn the loss of this loved and special person. We carry our love for her forever.
