He is survived by his wife Dorothy Lee (Glisson) Brown; sons Ronald Turner Brown II (Katrina); Garvin DeForest Brown III (Dana); granddaughters Kaila, Jessica and Hannah; grandchildren, Hunter, Logan, Trinity and their mother, Amy Gaskin and sister Kathryn Henson Alberts; cousins Dr. Barclay Kirkland and Donna Viduna and a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He attended Florida State University where he earned a BA and MS in Political Science. Ron proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967-1970 with an honorable discharge.
Ron taught school for two years and was in sales four years. He was in State Purchasing for 31 years with Florida State University, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Management Services.
His greatest passion was being a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks since 4/26/1988. Prior to joining the Elks Lodge, he served as Scout Master of the Lodges Boy Scout Troop. He served as Exalted Ruler four times and became an Elks Life member 4/4/2017. One of his proudest years as an Elk was 2017 when the Tallahassee Lodge won the National Ritual Championship in Reno, Nevada and he was awarded All American Inner Guard. He also served in all other chairs, some more than one year. In addition, he was North District Vice President (1 yr term); District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (1 yr term); served on the Florida Elks Youth Camp Board of Directors and on Florida State Elks Assn Board of Directors. Two other areas he devoted much of his time and caring as an Elk were the Gretchen Everhart School and the North Florida Veteran's Stand Down.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam should be made to the Florida Elks Youth Camp: Florida State Elks Association, Inc., 24175 S.E. Hwy 450, PO Box 49, Umatilla, FL 32784.
A memorial and celebration of Ron's life will be held at the Tallahassee Elks Lodge, 276 N. Magnolia Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32301 on December 12th at 4:00 p.m.
