He was born in Cuba on February 7, 1922 and legally migrated to the US in 1953 and became a US Citizen in 1960. He lived in Miami, FL and Barnesville, GA before moving to Monticello, FL in 1986. Since 1999 Roberto, lived with his son in Asheville, and frequently made trips to the farm in Monticello.
He was a farmer. He was very generous and he gave much of what he grew on the Monticello farm to family and friends. He loved to spend time outdoors, especially on his tractor.
He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was creative and a great cook of Cuban cuisine. He had friends from all walks of life and backgrounds. He was very close to his church family at Good Shepherd.
Papi Bear is survived by his son, Bob Brown-Barrios of Asheville, NC and former daughter-in-law, Nina Brown of Brevard, NC; grandchildren, Kris Barrios of Sacramento, CA, Meredith Sasso of Orlando, FL, Lucy Bradley of Brevard, NC; and great-grandchildren, Kai, William, Wren, Adam, Woods and Wade. Papi Bear was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dr. Lygia Iznaga-Barrios, a professor of Romance Languages.
Visitation will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with a celebration of his life beginning at 2:00 P.M.
