Richard E. "Dick" Yelverton, 71, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital surrounded by his immediate family.
Dick Yelverton was born in Uniontown, Alabama, moving to the Mobile, Alabma area while still in grade school. After one year of college studying mechanical engineering, Dick was drafted into the US Army in 1961 and served until 1964 with an Honorable Discharge. Upon leaving the service, Dick joined Georgia-Pacific in management training and was assigned to establish the branch operation in Tallahassee in 1970. Mr. Yelverton remained the branch manager of G-P in Tallahassee until its closure in 1996, retiring in 1997. In his later years, he did volunteer driving for the Veterans' Administration. Dick enjoyed team bowling and was an avid golfer at both Winewood and Golden Eagle country clubs.
Dick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janice; his children, Travis Yelverton and Leslie Laing (Andrew); and his two grandchildren, Tyler and Abagail.
He is predeceased by his mother, Edith Shand Yelverton; his father, Elbert E. Yelverton; and brother, Tommy Yelverton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 am at Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer's Project Inc. at 301 E. Tharpe St., Tallahassee, FL 32303. (850) 386-2778
