24,2011 at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House. He was born September 18,
1936, in Telogia, Florida, the son of the late Paul H. Morgan Sr. and Lois Durham
Morgan. He was the youngest of three siblings.
His family moved to Tallahassee in 1940. He graduated from Leon High School in
1954 where he lettered as a center for the football team. He attended Florida State
University for two years where he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He
transferred to the University of Florida, graduating in January 1959 with a
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
On June 24, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Pickens Talley of
Tallahassee, at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. They moved to Santa
Monica, California driving a brand new, 1958 VW Beetle. He worked for Douglas
Air and later, in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he wrote countdown procedures
for astronauts. He returned to Tallahassee in 1960 to start Morgan Electric Co.
Inc., an electrical contracting business, with his father and brother-in-law, the late
Hugh Adams.
Paul served as the first chairman of the city of Tallahassee's Construction Industry
board, served as director of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and president
of Tallahassee Exchange Club where he was a member since 1962. He also served
two terms on the State Electrical Licensing Board, serving as chairman in 1988.
He helped start two local banks, the Southern Bank and The Bank of Tallahassee
and was one of the developers of Bay North, St. Theresa beach, which was
originally Camp Weed. He was an original founder of the Tallahassee Athletic
Club in 1971 and the Tallahassee Ski Club in 1973.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pickens Talley Morgan; son, Trey Morgan
of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Pickens Morgan & Rev.
Dr. Bill Breedlove of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, E. Talley Morgan of
Quincy; grandchildren, Benjamin Morgan of Tallahassee, Mary and Talley
Breedlove of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Mary Sue Wilmer and brother-in-law
Robert Wilmer and sister, Joyce Adams and a dear friend, Anne Vinson.
Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Monday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral
Home, 1737 Riggins Road. A graveside service will be held at Tuesday 10:00am, September
27,2011 at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's
Episcopal Church or the Big Bend Hospice. .
