After High School, Nelson entered into the U.S. Air Force proudly serving his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated the University of Florida in 1960 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation for over 40 years.
Nelson was a man of faith. While he and his family lived in Bartow, FL, he served as a Lay Leader at First United Methodist Church. After moving to Tallahassee in 1973, he and his family joined Trinity United Methodist Church where he taught the Senior High Sunday School Class. Later he and his family became members of Christian Heritage Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Walters; Son, Eddie Walters (Ruthie); siblings, Fayth Ingham (Craig), Keith Walters (Eileen) and Karen Rhodes. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and other family members as well as his grand-dawgter, Kailey Sue.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 60 years, Joan Harper Walters who passed away on December 28, 2014.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 4pm at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to the American Heart Association in memory of Nelson Walters.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, the family will not receive friends for visitation at their home.
