Nancy Rice Dodson

Nancy was born in Valdosta, GA on January 12, 1940, to her parents, Joel and Frankie “Dee” Rice. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida where she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1957. In 1983, she married her soulmate, Walter H. Dodson. She worked at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for over 30 years, where she retired in 2006.

Nancy’s greatest accomplishments were being a loving wife, mother, Granny, and caregiver. She was a devoted Christian and dedicated member of Crossway Baptist Church. Nancy had a generous spirit and felt her time here on Earth was best spent helping others. Throughout her life, she was a warm, positive, and supportive influence on all her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, gifted painter, skilled seamstress, and expert cook; most famously known for her pecan pie, holiday ham, and pound cake. Her vivacious and giving heart will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frankie “Dee” and Joel Rice; her husband, Walter Dodson; and her nephews, Peter Rice and Brian Rice; She is survived by her daughters, Sheryll (Dwight) Wilson and Catherine (Chris) Meunier; her stepsons Tony (Laura) Dodson and Craig Dodson; grandchildren, Holly (Adam) Hill, Kasey (Zachary) Bickley Kirkland, Jessica (Alejandro) Lopez, Casey Meunier, Chrysalin Meunier, Alexandria (Austin) Kernan, Henry Goedert, and Anna (Macgregor) Goedert; great-grandchildren, Alec Hill and Rhodes Kernan; brothers, Frank (Mary) Rice and Thomas (Branda) Rice; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 24th at Culley’s Funeral Home (1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL). Funeral service will be held at Crossway Baptist Church (405 Crossway Rd, Tallahassee, FL) on Saturday, November 25th at 11:00 a.m. with burial at 1pm at Cedar Grove Cemetery (Antioch Church Road/ GA Hwy 262) in Climax, GA.
