Martha Lee Demyer Pitts, 80, of Fulton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on the 25th of November 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 3rd, 1944, she was the beloved daughter of her parents, Gilbert and Mary DeMyer, along with her younger sister Mary Grant DeMyer.
After graduating from Fulton High School in 1963, where she achieved Valedictorian and Head Majorette, Martha attended the University of Kentucky, where she was a Chi Omega sorority member. She would graduate with her bachelor’s degree in 1967 and a master's degree in Home Economics in 1968.
While studying at the University of Kentucky, Martha would meet the love of her life and future husband, Dr. Jim Pitts. Martha and Jim were married on June 24th, 1967, and after a season of prayer, they would move to Tallahassee, Florida where Jim would pursue a lifelong career at Florida State University while they raised their three beautiful children.
As members of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, Jim and Martha were devoted Sunday School teachers and leaders within the college ministry of First Baptist. Also a lover of music, Martha sang in the choir and taught Suzuki violin to her students and children. Martha began a career in education, but after having her children, Martha devoted her time to raising her children and giving them every opportunity possible. She lived for God, her family, and her ministry to Christ.
A true southern bell, Martha was quick to greet anyone with her southern hospitality and charm. Martha was an avid and wonderful cook, often preparing holiday meals that have stood the test of time with recipes that have been passed down and live on with her family. She also loved to share her hospitality by hosting students from church and employee’s from Jim’s circle at FSU.
Martha enjoyed playing golf, accompanying her family to FSU sporting events, church fellowship, going to birthday get-togethers with her many wonderful friends within the church, and most of all, spending time with her family and traveling the world.
Martha is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gilbert and Mary DeMyer, and her beloved father and mother-in-law, Alvord and Zelma Pitts.
