Mabel Stokes Chambers, age 86, of Tallahassee, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015. She was born in Defuniak Springs, Florida on October 22, 1928 to Homer Lee Godwin and Winnie Stafford Godwin. She was married to James Merl Stokes, C.L.U., on September 7, 1952, (deceased) and later married to Monty Chambers on March 1, 1974. She worked in retail sales at Gayfers, was a volunteer of Children's Home Society, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She lived her life with a passion for helping people.
Mabel is preceded in death by her one brother, Joe Godwin, one sister, Syble Godwin Brown, and one grandson, Aaron Chambers. She is survived by one son, Don (Tonya) Stokes, and two other sons, Bobby (Connie) Chambers, and Billy Chambers of Panama City, Fl.; Grandchildren, Ashley Stokes, Josh Chambers, James (Rebecca) Chambers, Lauren (Dustin) Covington, Kyle (Brittany) Dugger; and one brother, Michael Helms; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Special mention is made to her lifelong special friends, Kathy and Charles Newlin.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12 noon on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Fellowship Baptist Church at 3705 North Monroe Street in Tallahassee, with funeral services beginning at noon. A private family interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers. please make donations to Big Bend Hospice.
