Lillian Scalia Watkins, of Tallahassee, passed away on August 30, 2017 at the age of 91. Lillian was born in Astoria, Long Island, New York on June 24, 1926. She was married for 52 years to Curtis E. Watkins who predeceased her on November 4, 1996.
Before moving to Tallahassee in 2004, she lived in Brooksville Florida for nearly 50 years. While living in Brooksville she was a small business owner for 37 years, a Chairwoman of the local Pilots Club Chapter, volunteered as an elementary school teacher’s aide, and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Living in Tallahassee she attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was a member of the Young at Heart fellowship. She had also been a member of the Italian American Club of Tallahassee and the Red Hat Society. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed dancing with her beloved husband, cooking Italian dishes and pastries, and being with her many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Francesco and Francis Scalia, and her sisters Catherine Scalia Senise, Johanna Scalia Skrovig, and Vinnie Scalia Rega. She is survived by her son Curtis E. Watkins II and her daughter-in-law Barbara P. Watkins of Tallahassee, Florida, her two grandchildren Ian Reynolds Watkins of Boston, Massachusetts, and Corinne Scalia Watkins of Tallahassee, Florida, her nieces Jacqueline Couch, Vivianne Palmateer, Denise Smith, and Lillian Dooies, and her nephews John Senise, Frank Senise, Joe Rega and Ron Rega.
Receiving of family and friends will be held at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1pm with interment to follow at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made to Big Bend Hospice in honor of Lillian.
