He was born on October 24, 1947 in Tallahassee, FL to Margaret Cavanaugh Callahan and Lee Roy Callahan, Sr. Butch
graduated from FSU in 1976, taught at Max Bruner Junior High in Fort Walton, FI before becoming a residential contractor in
Tallahassee. For the past 25 years he worked for Leon County School Board as the Director of Maintenance. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and served six years in the Army Reserves. Lee was an avid fisherman.
Among those treasuring Butch's memory are Kathryn "Kay" Callahan, Teresa Kuperberg and husband Jeff, David Wiltshire, Lee Kuperberg, Bill Brown and wife Lisa, Calvin, Lauren, Aaron Brown, Carl Cavanaugh, Burt Cox, his beloved mother, Margaret Cavanaugh Callahan. Siblings; Annette Roberts and husband Dave, Carolyn Losey and husband Jerry, Beverly Ashby, Ronald Callahan and wife Teresa, Donald Callahan and wife Jackie, along with a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and his loyal and loving dogs "Cooper" & “Molly”, a special tribute to Carl Cavanaugh, his Anamcara (his soul friend).
Butch was predeceased by his father, Lee Roy Callahan, Sr.
The celebration of his life will take place on Sunday March 27th, 2011 at 2 :00 p.m. at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home (1737 Riggins Road) in Tallahassee with one hour of visitation prior to the service. A graveside service and inurnment will be performed at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery. Donations to the American Cancer Society 2619 Centennial Blvd Suite 101 32308 or to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd 32308 is preferred in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to express special gratitude to the staff of the Neuro ICU at TMH as well as all of his attending physicians throughout his illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
