Julia Carolyn Revell St. Petery (Judy), 77, passed away on September 30, 2021 at her home. She was born on October 29, 1943 in Dothan, AL and was adopted by her parents, Elizabeth and Alton Revell of Tallahassee.
Judy was a member of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she served in the church choir for over 40 years. Judy is survived by Louis B. St.Petery, Jr., her husband of 54 years; her children Elizabeth S. Hancock, Leigh St. Petery, Louis B. St.Petery, III; and four grandchildren.
Judy attended Leon High School, Florida State University, and the University of Florida Medical School. She practiced pediatrics for more than four decades and was a passionate advocate for adoptees and foster children, and devoted her life to improving access to medical care for poor children. When she began her career, she was one of a small number of female physicians in Tallahassee. Over time, Judy became a leader in numerous medical organizations, including being selected as the first female chair of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s medical staff. She was the recipient of many awards, including sharing the Capital Medical Society’s Harrison Humanitarian Award for Exemplary Dedication with her husband. Judy was a nature lover and enjoyed birdwatching and gardening and supported numerous environmental initiatives and issues. She had a positive impact on the lives of many families throughout Florida and will be dearly missed.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at the St. Thomas More Co-Cathedral Social Hall at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 8, 2021. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service. Guests must wear masks at all times.
