Dr. John Craig Peterson, 71, of Tallahassee died Sunday, June 24th at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare surrounded by family and former colleagues. Born in Evanston, Illinois, John lived most of his life in Florida. He moved to Tallahassee 22 years ago to join the local private practice Nephrology group after having spent nearly 30 years at the University of Florida as first a student and then a physician, researcher, and professor of Nephrology.
He retired just a few years ago, and had been enjoying more time to travel, golf, and spend with his family. But that didn't keep him from visiting with his old colleagues at the hospital and dialysis units. He was an avid and skilled golfer, and adored his golfing buddies at Killearn Country Club. Everyone who knew him knew they could expect the very best in corny jokes whenever they saw Petey.
Survivors include his wife: Wanda Marshall Peterson; two daughters: Jennie Peterson of Long Beach, California, Cassie (Fernando) Parra-Ferro of Tallahassee; two grandsons: Tristan and Lucas Parra-Ferro; a brother: Scott of Jacksonville, FL.
A Celebration of His Life is open to all who knew him Saturday, July 7th from 2-5PM at Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee. Please join us in your best orange and blues as we toast a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation, which so generously provided him with funding for important research throughout his career.
