He was born in Athens, Greece on January 10, 1959. John and his sister, Cathy were adopted from a Greek orphanage when they were infants.
After graduating from Apalachicola High School in 1978, John had a career at the St. Joe Paper Co. for many years.
John enjoyed the outdoors and working in the yard. He loved to go four-wheeling, mud bogging, boating and fishing. He really looked forward to trips to Biloxi to play the slot machines. He was a huge football fan and never missed an NFL game or an FSU football game. His true passion was his love of dogs. He had as many as 17 dogs several years ago.
John was known around town for his infectious smile. He greeted everyone with, “Hey Cuz!” or “What’s up?” John was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
John was pre-deceased by his parents Jimmie and Olga Nichols of Apalachicola. He leaves behind his son Jamie (Allie) Nichols and two grandsons: Noah and Lincoln Nichols: all of Port St. Joe, FL. A sister Cathy (Rick) Williams: three nephews, Matt, Andy and Nick Williams, all of Tallahassee, FL. Also a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles. John is also survived by dear friends: Jerrie Lee, Gerald, Mikaela, and Jacob Sanford, Jerry Sasnett and family.
We would like to acknowledge the great care John received at Big Bend Hospice and TMH. He enjoyed sharing stories and laughs with the nurses at TMH especially, Mckay, Cassandra, Sharon, Victoria, and Genaro.
A graveside service will be held at the pavilion at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola, FL at 11:00 am on Monday June 7, 2021.
