He was born in Blountstown, Florida on November 28, 1946. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-1969 and fought in the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star for his bravery in combat. He was a proud member of the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines and enjoyed annual reunions in Arlington, VA with his fellow Veterans. He loved volunteering at the VA clinic and was also a member of the Leon High ‘65 Old Guard.
He found peace in nature and enjoyed fishing and camping. John was known for his sense of humor and generous nature. He attended both Tallahassee Community College and the Florida State University, graduating with a degree in Criminology.
John David Burch was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Franklin Burch and Pearlie Mae Hudson, his brother Jerry Burch, and his sister Betty Burch Cross. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carol (Deenie Dollar) Burch, his daughter Callie Dean Burch, his brother Ben Burch, his sister Marcie Burch, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fellow Marine Corps veterans that he considered his brothers.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 between 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home at 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 2/9 Network via check paid to “2/9 Network c/o Danny Schuster” or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at www.vvmf.org.
