Joan E. Smith was born in Clinton, Iowa, on May 14, 1939, to George and Marion Smith. She graduated in 1957 from Los Gatos Union High School in Los Gatos, Calif.
On October 3, 1970, Joan married Henry “Hank” Smith and the couple had three children together while living in Sunnyvale, Calif. In 1983, they moved their family to Tallahassee, Fla. Joan was known to
many in Tallahassee through her secretarial and retail work at Eubanks Realty, Country Cross Stitch, Country Collection and Awards4U and through volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association, honoring her mother. Dedicated to her family, Joan was notorious for her quick wit, dry sense of humor and
talent with crafts.
Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Henry Smith of Tallahassee and Boynton Beach, Fla.; her daughter, Jolene Campbell (Rodney) of Marana, Ariz., her sons, Janson Smith of Tampa, Fla., and Jarrett Smith (Tracy) of Boynton Beach; her grandchildren, Zakary, Gracyn and Ari Smith, all of Boynton Beach; her brother, George “Skip” Smith (Linda) of Coquille, Ore.; her nieces, Kayline Johnson (Alfred) of Reno, Nev., and Krista Snook of Eugene, Ore., and her nephew, Brent Smith of Coos Bay, Ore..
Preceding her in death were her parents and her aunt, Edith Gallagher.
Joan passed away peacefully at Big Bend Hospice House on February 26, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family.
Per her wishes, no services are planned after cremation.
The family asks that any gifts in Joan’s memory be directed to Smith Smiles Toy Donations or the Alzheimer’s Association.
