Jerry Allan Strickland, 71, of Quincy, died Wednesday (6/3) at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Jerry was a native of San Jose, California. Despite having been hit by a bus and confined to a bed for over a year as a teenager, Jerry recovered enough to have served in the US Air Force. He always enjoyed working on engines and even rebuilt an automobile engine from his bedside while still recovering from his accident. Following his Air Force service he went through the police academy & worked his way up to homicide detective in Miami-Dade County. After moving to North Florida in 1981 Jerry worked as an automobile mechanic and his last position was with Auto Super Service Center in Tallahassee.
Preceded in death by his parents: Colin Alonzo & Virginia Sheppard Strickland, brother: Jack, sister: Jan, and great-grandson: Jackson; survivors include his son: Robert Allan daughters: Deborah Jean , and Jeri Lyn; brother: Joe of Perry; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial service and ashes release at sea will be held at 6:30 pm on Sunday July 12, 2015 at Keaton Beach that is located at the end of Hwy 460 in Perry, Florida.
