Ian graduated from Godby High School in 2011. After graduating, he remained at Godby High School to study Web Communication using Adobe Dreamweaver CS6, completed the assessments and passed the exam in 2013. Ian earned a certificate as an Adobe Certified Associate on September 18, 2014. He enjoyed being a Shriners’ kid and traveled several times to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he was baptized in December 2005, with his Sunday School teacher, Mitch Hover assisting Pastor Rich Kincl.
Ian was always happy and smiled a lot. Even though Ian was confined to a wheelchair and could not speak, he spoke volumes with his beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. He was benevolent, caring, compassionate, inspirational, loving, loyal, outgoing, optimistic, positive, smart, and warmhearted. Ian was intuitive and had a wonderful sense of humor. What a joker he was! Ian had keen insight into people. He was a strong believer in prayer and would often look toward the sky indicating he needed to pray for someone. Sometimes that look was when he was thinking about someone in heaven too.
Ian loved spending time with family, especially his grandparents, Jean (Meme) and Bill Cogburn (Papa). He enjoyed going with them to Marzuq Shriners, the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile events, cousins’ lunches, and many vacations. He loved spending time with the Miller family in Alabama, especially at Christmas, when he would see his Grandma Miller, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Christmas was his favorite time of the year. He loved giving gifts to people and watching their faces of surprise, and he never expected any in return. He loved to watch the Price is Right on CBS and listen to country music on the radio, 103.1 The Wolf. He loved movies and had an extremely large collection of videos.
Ian is survived by his parents, Joseph and Susan Crutchfield, sister Sarah Crutchfield Justice, and nephew Daxton Justice. Ian will also be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
