Helen Martin Keaton, 81, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away unexpectedly from a non-COVID respiratory disease on September 21, 2021. Born in Milan, TN on November 30, 1940, Helen graduated from Taylor County High School in Perry, FL and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University.
Helen taught physical education at Augusta Raa Middle School for 30 plus years and after retiring from teaching worked in the Bill Drafting Dept. of the State of Florida Senate.
She was a Charter member of The Extra Point Club and was a long-time member of the Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, member of the Seekers Class and sang in the choir for more than 15 years as well as a previous member of the GFWC Tallahassee Junior Woman’s Club. One of Helen’s favorite hobbies was knitting; she made many blankets for family and friends and with a group from her church, she knitted at least 100 stocking caps yearly to donate to the homeless.
Helen was an avid FSU fan and was passionate about FSU sports and all things Seminole.
She is survived by her husband John Keaton to whom she was happily married for 49 years, her sister, Margaret Martin of Dunedin, FL, sister-in-law Becky Keaton of Tallahassee, FL as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Mary Elizabeth Martin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 16th at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church – 1700 N. Meridian Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to the FSU Seminole Booster Club designated for Women’s Sports at https://boosters.fsu.edu and to the Salvation Army.
