Helen Turner Grissett of Tallahassee, Florida, passed peacefully on November 20, 2016, at the age of 100 years. The daughter of the late Linton and Guy Turner, she was born in Dadeville, Alabama. Her early years were spent in DeFuniak Springs and Marianna, Florida, before attending college in Montreat, NC and earning a Masters in Education at the Florida State College for Women, now FSU.
Teaching was her passion; she made many friends while teaching at Caroline Brevard Elementary, Leon High School and Rudeiger Elementary and built fond memories as the director of the Tallahasee Junior Museum (Tallahassee Museum) for 7 years. After retirement she continued to support schools and learning as a substitute teacher and volunteer.
She was predeceased by her husband, P. Edward Grissett; sister, Virginia Schreiber; and brother Fred Turner. Surviving are her son, Edward Grissett, daughter-in-law Cindy Vores; brother, Clarence Turner; nephews, Jim Turner, Guy Wayne Turner, Larry Turner and Jerome Schreiber; niece, Linda Turner Earp; and kind neighbors and many good friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice, Meals on Wheels or a favorite charity.
