Elizabeth “Libby” Case Barineau passed away on April 2, 2013, at The Margaret Dozier Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 18, 1927, in Bogaloosa, Louisiana, to the late Franklin Harrison Case and Myrtis Miller Case. Her family moved to Leon County in the late 1920s when Libby was a baby, and she resided in Tallahassee for the remainder of her life.
She is preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband, Ernest E. Barineau, and four brothers, Milton Case, Forrest Case, Melvin Case and Frank Case.
She is survived by six daughters: Marilyn Brown (Gene), Edress 'Eddy' Harllee (John), Brenda Johnson (Caroll), Vicki Brinkley (Ray), all of Tallahassee; Sharon Abbott (John) of Cairo, GA, and Kathy Johnson (Jerry) of Clermont, FL; 15 grandchildren: Denise Brown, Reed Brown, John Harllee, Jr., Jason Harllee, Danna Johnson Beener, Brad Johnson, Boyd Johnson, Jeremy Brinkley, Leslie Brinkley, all of Tallahassee; Suzie Brown Vazquez of Miami, FL; David Abbott of Marianna, FL; Case Abbott Maynard and Cary Abbott, of Cairo, GA; Keith Johnson of Orlando, FL; and Brandy Johnson-Scharpf of Clermont, FL; as well as 22 great-grandchildren; special sister-in-laws, Vera Case and Dorothy Case; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Libby devoted her life to raising her six daughters and keeping a warm and welcoming home. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and the many visitors who came to eat her famous Southern cooking. She sewed dresses and doll clothes for her girls and fried up okra and tomatoes from her garden. She ran a tight ship, but kept everyone laughing with her wickedly dry and delightful sense of humor. She cherished the antics and achievements of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always their proudest fan on the sidelines, whether around the corner for t-ball or soccer, or in South Korea for the Olympics. She was a loving and doting babysitter, not just for her own family but for many other children, all of whom she loved dearly. Related or not, they all called her “Granny.” She will be so deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held at Culley’s Meadowwood Timberlane Road Chapel on Sunday, April 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 8th at 11:00 am at Culley’s MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel.
