Claryne "Renee" Henry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th, in Tallahassee. She was 90. Renee was born and raised in Jacksonville, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) earning a mathematics degree, in 1946, to which she added a M.S. in Mathematics in 1965.
Her first marriage was to Bryan W. Henry, of Tallahassee and produced a son, Bryan Jr. As a single mother she worked as a classroom teacher for years, and subsequently had a long career in administration as Secondary Mathematics Supervisor for the Florida Department of Education. She continued helping to run the annual Sunshine Scholars program for gifted math and science students for many years after her retirement.
Renee took tremendous enjoyment from being with family and friends, and attended festivals and other musical events for decades, listening to her family members and friends play and sing. She was a long-time member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.
Renee is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, John and Lynn Hedgecoth of Nashville, TN; her son and daughter-in law, Red and Murphy Henry, of Winchester, Virginia; two grandchildren, Casey and Christopher Henry; and her great-grandson, Dalton Henry.
Renee's friends are invited to a Visitation at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee from 5-7pm this Thursday, March 12th, and her funeral service at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13th. Interment will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Jacksonville, time still to be arranged. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
