Charles Hayden Ames, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012. His wife Bessie (York) Ames preceded him in death in November 2003.
Charles, born February 14, 1921, was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Baetzold) Ames of Johnsonburg, NY. Brother to the late Clara Ruth (Herb) Shaw of Arcade, NY. Charles attended schools in Johnsonburg and Attica. Charles and Bessie were married in Johnsonburg in November 1943. He and Bessie raised their children in Alden, NY, before retiring to Florida in 1988.
Charles worked at Hewitt-Robins of Buffalo for 32 years, then worked at Ward Hydraulics of Alden, and then Buffalo Belt and Weaving until his retirement. He was a salesman for Newton Mfg. as well as Nationwide Advertising. He enjoyed going around the WNY area meeting up with his customers. He had a few customers that stayed with him until he had to give that work up, just a few years ago.
He was a former member of Millgrove Bible Church, Alden, NY, and then of Maranatha Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL.
He is survived by his four children: Kevin (Trudy) of Glendale, AZ, Sharon (Bill) Shifflett of Tallahassee, FL, Mark of Cohocton, NY, and Debora (Stephen) Hinks of Beaver Falls, PA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Weeks Funeral Home in Warsaw, NY, on Friday, May 4, 2012. Visitation began at 11:00 a.m., and the service began at 12:00 p.m. Following the service, burial was in Lyonsburg Cemetery, Bliss, NY. Carl Manning, director of Bliss Summit Bible Camp, officiated at the service.
