Barbara Ann Carroll entered into heavenly rest on November 13, 2018 after struggling to recover from a routine surgery. She was born in St. Petersburg, FL, spent her elementary years in Miami and moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL in 1954. Barbara was the oldest daughter of Cecil and Lena Carroll. She graduated from Alfred I. DuPont in 1960 and from Stetson University in January, 1965.
Barbara retired after 38 years with the Duval County School Board. For 31 years she was a social studies teacher at Ft. Caroline Middle where she helped organize and chaperone annual trips for students to Washington and Williamsburg. She taught one year in the gifted program at Darnell Cookman and finished her career as Media Specialist at Terry Parker High. She traveled all over the world and turned her love for travel into lesson plans. She brought back artifacts and slides to share with students and enjoyed bringing places near and far to life with stories of personal experiences.
In 1976 she was initiated in Chapter H of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was active in her chapter and served on several state committees as well. She felt it was an honor to be the first woman inducted into the Civitan Club of South Jacksonville-a club her dad had helped to found in 1959. She served as President of the club during its 50th year (2009). She also served a term on the Board of Directors of Baptist Towers. She became a member of Southside Baptist Church in 1954 and was an active participant in many areas in the life of the church. Her main focus was her love for the Media Center.
