Atha lived most of her adult life in Cleveland, Tennessee and moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2004. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Elaine Swafford of Tallahassee, Florida and Alva Nechtman of Phoenix, Arizona; her two adored grandchildren, Cleetes Ramsey Swafford and Alva Elizabeth Swafford Smith, both of Tallahassee, Florida; and three great grandchildren, Pledger, Mary Peyton and Lydee Striplin. She has one surviving brother, Jimmy, and one sister, Flo, of Cleveland, Tennessee.
Atha enjoyed traveling with senior groups, both in Cleveland and in Tallahassee and visited many places in the United States and Europe. She loved attending lunches and classes with friends at the Senior Center and greatly missed going there as her health declined.
She was very accomplished at beading, crochet and created many beautiful shirts and jackets for herself, family and friends. She also was a whiz at crossword puzzles and completed them in ink and only rarely referred to a dictionary for help.
Atha's family would like to thank her primary caregivers, Dee and Majeeda, with Right at Home and her friend and helper at home, Tasha and her daughter. Our thanks to Big Bend Hospice for their care and help during her last two weeks.
