Vancil Allen Smith Jr. or “Allen” to his many friends, was born on July 3rd, 1958 in Coffeyville, KS, the son of Vancil and Rachel (Burgess) Smith. The family moved to the Keys community and Allen attended school here and graduated from Tahlequah High School in the class of 1976. He began his working career with the Cherokee Nation Housing Authority and retired from the Cherokee Nation. Allen loved the outdoors, and never missed the chance to go hunting, fishing, and camping with his friends in Broken Bow. Sports have always been a passion of Allen’s. He spent time assisting the Coaches with the Keys High School Football team, and was happy helping the players reach their potential. There was nothing better for Allen than time spent with family and friends, sharing a laugh or two and eating some delectable crawfish pies. He was the friend that everyone enjoyed spending time with, he had a smile that always made you feel welcome and his time was your time. Allen’s health began to fail him and he passed form this life on Friday, May 11th, 2018 in Tulsa, OK, with his loving family by his side. Allen was 59 years, 10 months and 8 days old. He will be greatly missed.
Allen is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his sister, Kimberly Sue Smith.
Those left to cherish Allen’s memory include his former wife, Patty Center, three stepchildren, DJ, Josh and Summer Hamby, his sister, Rhonda Faye Carpenter of Park Hill, OK, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Our hearts are broken, but we know that we will see him again someday. Until then, we love you Allen.
