Thelma Marie McDonald

Funeral services for Thelma Marie Brewer McDonald will be held Friday, January 4th, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK. She will be laid to rest at Ross Cemetery in Tahlequah, OK. Viewing will be held Thursday, January 3rd, 2019, beginning at 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver. Pallbearers include Dominique McDonald, Fred Hall, Larry Chastain, Jerome McNack, and Emanuel Holmes. Flower girls include Yolanda Sam, Cali Hall, Shayona McNack, Aysha Smith, and Nevaeh McNack.

Thelma McDonald was born July 9th, 1937 in Hulbert, OK, and was raised by her father Dennis Brewer and mother Maddie (Parrish) Brewer, in a family with six brothers and two sisters. In 1958, she married her husband Bill Chism and had four children, Cecil Chism, John Chism, Sandra Chism, and Glendale Chism, she would later go on to marry her second husband Cooey McDonald and they would expand their family with four more children, Cleveland McDonald, Floyd McDonald, Rosie McDonald-Jones, and Tammy McDonald.

Thelma McDonald was a sweetheart by nature, caring for her children and other kids around the neighborhood, regardless of their race or background. She could be found cooking some of her specials at home, beans and cornbread or warm peach cobbler that everybody knew and loved, or taking the time to go fishing and relaxing the day away. She enjoyed singing in the choir and loved being a member of her church family at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Thelma was a good and faithful servant to her Lord. Thelma moved to Nashville for a short while in 2003 to live with her daughter, Rosie. She moved back to Oklahoma in 2005. She was sweet, humble, and never judgmental of anyone and was always a pleasure to be around. She was always wanting those around her to get along, and love one another. On December 26, 2018, the Lord called this hard working wife, mother, grandmother and friend home from her earthly labors. Thelma was 81 years old and leaves a legacy of love and dedication for her family to follow. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thelma is preceded in death by her mother and father, first husband Bill Chism, brothers JD Brewer, OD Brewer, Herman Brewer, Elmer Brewer, Arethal Brewer, and Leo “Poochie” Brewer, sisters Majorie Chism, Mozella Johnson, sons Cecil Chism, John Chism, and daughter Sandra Chism.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Cleveland McDonald and wife Nisa of Broken Arrow, OK, Glendale Chism of Wagoner, OK, and Floyd McDonald and wife Rebecca, or “Babydoll” of Wagoner, OK, daughters Rosie McDonald-Jones of Tahlequah, OK and Tammy McDonald also of Tahlequah, OK. Her legacy lives on through her 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, church family and loved ones, too numerous to mention.
