Cleatus Mitchell Cook, or Smokey to his family and friends, was born on December 16th, 1951, in Wagoner, OK, the son of Roy Samuel and Loye (Schubert) Cook. He was raised with two sisters and two brothers, Carl Dean, Clyde Earl, Cheryl and Joan. He grew up in and around Sequoyah State Park and graduated from Hulbert High School. Following school, he was called up in the draft to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He returned to the United States and began his career in pipeline, working with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 147, and ended his career as a Pipeline Inspector. His career took him all over the world, and it was often in the company of his beloved Mary Sue, whom he married in 1985 in Wagoner, OK. Smokey won many awards and achievements for his highly trained professionalism. He was the proud father of one daughter, Kimberly and one son, Mitchell. He loved time spending time on the lake, and even possessed a watch that told him when the fish were biting. He was also an enthusiast for Shuffleboard, Wii Bowling and Nascar. He enjoyed the time spent with his friends at the Wagoner Elks Lodge, doing dozer work, and working on old cars and helping others where his work ethic was buying high and selling cheap! He was quiet and unassuming, loved his family unconditionally, and never tired from the sunset from his own backyard. His wife passed from this life in 2010, and Smokey never stopped missing her every day of his life. Smokey died on March 24th, 2023 at his home. He was 71 years old and will never be forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Fritz and Clara (McMahand) Schubert and Grover Cleveland and Alberta (Clark) Cook. He joins his parents, and the love of his life wife, Mary Sue, and joins his brothers, Carl Dean, Clyde earl and sister, Joan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved children, Kimberley Cook-Vaughn and husband Rodney Vaughn of Tahlequah, OK and son Roy Cook and wife Sara of Norman, OK.
