Funeral services for Ruth Bernice Lamons will be held on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 11:00 Am at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Bill Holcomb officiating. Her visitation will be conducted on Thursday, November 29th, 2018 beginning at noon until 8:00 PM with her family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Ruth Bernice (Dreasler) Lamons was born on Monday, March 24th, 1930 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Elmer Edward and Lucy (Dunn) Dreasler. Ruth lived in the Tahlequah area in Cherokee County her entire lifetime. She passed away on November 25th, 2018 at the age of 88(one year and two days after the passing of her beloved husband Garl Gene Lamons, a union that lasted 70 years). Ruth Bernice Dreasler and Garl Gene Lamons were married July 19th, 1947. To this union two sons were born, John Edward “Eddie” Lamons and Luther Dean “Luke” Lamons.
Ruth Attended Bagley High School and later Northeastern Oklahoma State College, attaining a Masters Degree in Early Education. She taught in rural schools for 42 years, first at Peggs, then Bethel, and finally Grandview for the last 26 years of her working career. Ruth and Garl purchased a farm and both raised cattle and farmed part time. After retiring, Ruth from teaching and Garl Gene from the US Postal Service, they ran the farm full time, raising Brangus cattle on their 406 acre farm for approximately 20 years. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah for 80 years, proclaiming her faith at the age of eight years old.
Ruth enjoyed cooking for her extended family, reading, and traveling with her sister, Mary Ella around the world, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most of the fifty states. She received great joy from having her grandchildren around and spending time with them during the summers.
Ruth is preceded in death by her infant brother, Leonard, two sisters, Margaret and Mary Ella, her parents, one granddaughter, Kim Whisenant, and one great granddaughter, Alyssa Lamons.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie Lamons and wife Debbie, and Luke and his wife Carla, one sister, Ruby Hale and eight grandchildren, David, Danika, John, Robert, and Charles Lamons, Laura Reed, Marijo Brennan, Heather Braun, and seven great grandchildren, Chris Lamons, Mandi Scicluna, Jessica, Grace and Mathew Whisenant, Sophie Braun, and Adrian Hewitt, two great great granddaughters, Skye Reed and Dakota Rea Haymaker, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends and loved ones.
