Ruby Sue Manes

Ruby Sue (Johnson) Manes, wife and mother, was born January 26, 1935 in Bunch, OK to James Rector Johnson and Haster (Bush) Johnson. She passed Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 17 days in Tahlequah, OK. Her passing was one year and nine days after her beloved husband of 71 years, Coolidge.

She attended several schools in Adair and Cherokee counties and attained her GED. While living near Hulbert, she met the ice delivery driver, Coolidge, who became her husband.

They married in 1952 and soon began their family. She was a loving and caring person to her children and grandchildren. Ruby Sue took great pride in her cooking and sewing skills. She was also a tireless supporter of Coolidge.

Several relatives have preceded her in passing, including her parents Rex and Haster (Hester), five brothers, one sister, and daughter Teresa.

She leaves behind children, Rickie Manes and wife April, Mickey Manes and wife Diane, and Vickie Proctor and husband Perry. To mourn her passing she leaves behind sisters, Christine and Louise as well as many nieces and nephews.

Nana Sue loved and was loved by her grandchildren, Shaun, Melinda, Philip, Lindsay, Victoria, Perry Jake, Angie, Craig, and adored her 11 great-grandchildren.

She worked at various jobs including cleaning telephone booth and as a veterinarian assistant. Her most important position was as a homemaker and providing for her children.

Sue served beside Coolidge in many capacities in the following churches. They include Bluff Avenue Freewill Baptist, Caney Baptist, Vian Freewill Baptist, Faith Freewill Baptist, and Steeley Springs Baptist.

Ruby Sue was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #10.

Funeral service for Ruby will be held Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Vance officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest in Tahlequah City Cemetery to join her beloved Coolidge.

Serving as pallbearers include Philip Manes, Lindsay Brown, Shaun Manes, Melinda Watson, Victoria Holland, and Jake Proctor.
