Funeral services for Robert Joseph Bacon Sr. will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Tahlequah with Bro. Raymond Johnson and Bro. Sam Keener officiating. Robert Joseph Bacon Sr. was born on June 17, 1947 in Talihina, OK to Everett A. and Naomi "Norma" Ruth (Fisher) Bacon. He grew up in the family home with one brother, Ronnie and a sister, Becky. Bob graduated from Buffalo Valley High School in 1965. He went on to get his LPN degree from Haskell Indian Nations University in 1967 and later went through the Physicians Assistant program in Phoenix, AZ.

Bob enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1967 where he studied to become a Medical Corpman. He proudly served in the 2nd Medical Battalion in "the land of the midnight sun", Korea. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and was an Expert M14 Rifleman. Bob was honorably discharged in December of 1970 with the rank of SP5.

On February 13, 1971 he married his love, Sue James in Talihina. They spent the next 45 years raising their children; Marlena, Andrea, Jennifer, and Robbie, making memories, and building their life together. Bob was a family man. When his family was all together he was usually grinning ear to ear. He was very proud of not only his children but his grandchildren as well. He attended as many of their extracurricular activities as he could.

He loved helping people. He showed care, concern, and compassion and often put his patient’s needs above his own. Bob was a dedicated PA and served many patients over his many years in the field. He worked at Talihina Indian Hospital before moving on to the Broken Bow Indian Health Clinic for 8 years. After spending 3 years on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation in New Mexico at their health clinic he came to Tahlequah to WW Hasting Indian Hospital where he finally retired from after 35 years.

In his spare time Bob liked to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with the family, going to a good hog fry, and family reunions were a highlight of the year. Bob was very proud to be Choctaw and he served on the Choctaw Nation Historic Board. He loved the Lord and was a member of Swimmer Baptist Church. He showed his love for Christ by serving on the Falls Creek Baptist Association Board, attending Choctaw singings, serving on the Choctaw Bible Translation Committee, and by his daily actions. Bob had a kind heart. He was helpful, honest, loving, and forgiving. 1 Corinthians 13:8 says, "Love never fails." The memory of Bob's love for his loved ones will forever remain here on earth through those whose lives were touched by him.

Bob fought the good fight but on January 16, 2016, with those he loved most by his side, his soul went on to his eternal heavenly home. Words cannot express how greatly he will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Marlena Bacon, and two grandchildren, Kourtney Bacon and Everett Torrez. Bob's memory lives on through his loving wife Sue of the home, two daughters, Andrea Torrez and her husband Bobby of Tahlequah, Ok, Jennifer Bacon of Tahlequah, Ok, and one son Robbie Bacon Jr. of Checotah, Ok. His 9 grandchildren, Nigel Torrez, Joseph Bacon, Kyle Bacon, Ethan Bacon, Kyndall Bacon, Zoe Bacon, Marlena Torrez, Taylan Bacon, and Valor Bacon. He leaves one brother, Ronnie Bacon, and one sister, Becky Sexton and husband Bruce as well as a host of other family and friends.
