Peggy Jo Hall

Funeral services for Peggy Jo Hall will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Basil’s Episcopal church in Tahlequah, OK with Mother Deborah officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13th, 2015 from noon until 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at a later date in Peggy’s hometown of Millington, TN. Pallbearers for Peggy include Phillip Logan, Robert Beach, Scotty Calico, Tommy Calico, James Jennings, and Mark Daniel.

Peggy Jo Hall was born on August 7th, 1934 in Shelby County, TN, the daughter of Dr. W. N. and Mrs. Eula Mae Powell-Hall. Peggy attended Millington Public School then attended Vanderbilt University and Memphis State College graduating Summa Cum Laude. She furthered her degree and career at NSU, attaining her Masters Degree and studying abroad in both Germany and England. Ms. Hall was an educator first and foremost. She began her career in OR, and began her career in OK in 1962. Peggy’s desire was to teach Native American Students. She packed her belongings in her VW and headed to Oklahoma to begin teaching English at Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah. She remained there for the next 22 years giving her all to her beloved students. She retired in 1985 and was elected to the Sequoyah Alumni Hall Of Fame. After retirement, Peggy spent her time enjoying her favorite past times, reading and writing. She was an accomplished writer and had two books as well as many articles and poetry published. Her favorite subject was William Shakespeare. She especially loved script writing and many of her plays were produced. Peggy won many awards for her poetry and short stories including her most recent award of 1st Place in Script Writing at the Barebones Festival in Muskogee, OK, in May of 2014. She was also a judge for the Tahlequah Star Watch Creative Writing Competition.

Peggy believed in supporting her community by attending events at NSU in Tahlequah, Muskogee and enjoyed the ballet and Broadway shows in Tulsa. Her favorite was NSU’s River City Players. She attended their very first show and has never missed a show until her health declined in 2014. Tahlequah has been a long time home for Peggy, from 1962 until October 2014 when she moved to Haskell, OK to live with her niece, Gina. Ms. Hall was a very caring and giving person. She loved animals. She would walk in the evenings taking treats with her for the dogs. She would also feed the neighborhood feral cats. She even took one of the cats to live with her in Haskell she named “Dickens”, because she said he was as mean as the dickens. Her other pet was a chicken named “Miss Cluck.”

A Christian by faith, Peggy was a faithful and longtime member of the St. Basil Episcopal Church, serving as Altar Guide, Directress of the Altar Guild, Church Librarian and the ECW. She adored her church family dearly. Peggy was home to her Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 at her niece’s home in Haskell.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ann (Hall) Scuderi and one niece, Laurie Ann Scuderi.

Those left to cherish her memory include one niece, Gina Cook and Husband Michael; one nephew, Nicholas Scuderi as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins along with her long time special friends, Romona Daniel, Wauneta Sanders, Audrey Pullen and Robert and Rowena Beach.
