Elsie Paulene Smith Nottingham was born on Friday, December 19, 1930, in Lowell, AR, the daughter of Marvin and Dessie Elsie (Drain) Nottingham. She was raised with two sisters, Helen Swisher and Lorene Wood. The family resided in Wichita, KS for a while and here Paulene attended school. On August 16, 1948, she married her husband and her best friend, Harmon Eugene Nottingham, in Wichita, KS. They were blessed with 62 years of happiness and four children, Allen, Jerry, Gail and Diane. Paulene was the best daughter, wife, mother and grandmother ever. She had the patience that never ended, her biggest joy was her husband and her children and grandchildren and she was totally and completely committed to the family she loved. She was always in the company of her canine and feline companions, her last being Molly. The cattle and horses in the family fields brought her just as much happiness. She worked retail sales from time to time, but she never tired of making a house a home for her family to grow and flourish in. She was so happy just to be with her grandchildren, sharing their day and their interests. She was sweet, kind and selfless; always caring far more for those she was around than herself. She lost her beloved husband in 2010, and she kept close to those she loved until her own health no longer permitted. The Lord called this beautiful lady home from her labors on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019 in Tulsa with her loved ones by her side. She was 88 years old. We have truly lost the most wonderful mother and friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Jerry Lee in 1985, and two sisters, Lorene Wood of Topeka and Helen Swisher of Chanute.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Allen Nottingham of Tulsa, Diane Swift and husband Doug of Bixby and Gail Ann Allen and husband Rob of Broken Arrow. She lives on in her five adored grandchildren, Lisa Lacy and husband Josh, Mandie Allen, and Ashlee Hendrickson and husband Daniel all of Broken Arrow, Haley Torkelson and husband Kyle of Sand Springs and Jeremy Swift of Norman, OK. Her six great grandchildren include Liam Williams, Huxley Hendrickson, Hazel Hendrickson, Hattie Hendrickson, Jude Torkleson, and Charlie Torkleson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
