Louise Wofford

Graveside services for Louise Wofford will be conducted on Saturday, January 9th, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Caney Cemetery with Brother Stanley Smith officiating. Her family will have a visitation on Friday, January 8th, 2021 beginning at 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel. Online condolences for her family may be left at www.reedculver.com.

Pallbearers for Louise are Archie L. Davis, Johnny Davis Sr., Larry Wofford, Joseph Davis, Jared Davis, and Jack Keith Wofford. Honorary Pallbearers include Albert Hicks, Archie Eugene Hensley, Ronnie L. Davis, Grant C. Cooper, and Johnny Davis Jr.

Louise (Pack) Wofford was born on March 25th, 1942 on the homestead at Dry Creek, outside of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was born to John Pack and Anna Mae (Norvell). She was raised with four brothers Melvin, Charlie, Jerry, Emmit Haskell, and two sisters Sue and Patricia. She was very close with her family, particularly her father whom she loved dearly. Although Pearly was her given name at birth, we will call her “Louise”, as that was how she wanted to be addressed. Louise was a very special lady, and had a certain way about her and liked things “just so”. Louise went to a small school in the area and as was accustomed to the times, she did not finish past primary schooling. Louise would not let that deter her from being a dedicated worker. She worked as a housekeeper, in the kitchens, as a CNA and a CMA. She was in that occupation for 20 years. Louise worked hard and was very proud of being around others who also worked in the nursing/caregiver fields. Even in her time in the nursing home, she often thought she was there to work. Louise married at a young age to Archie Lee Davis and together had six children: Taunia Marie, Phyllis Jean, Archie Leon, and Johnny William, with two not surviving past birth. The babies were named Charlas Ray and Susie Lavone. Although lost, they were always near to her heart. Louise later met, fell in love, and married Jack Wofford (twice) and had two sons, Larry and David Wofford. Louise must have loved Jack very much as they stayed married the second time, until his death. Later in life she did remarry to Otis Smith, but retained the Wofford last name. Louise was, as mentioned before, a very special lady. She gave the meaning of the word “spit-fire”. She kept everyone on their toes, and kept you to your word. She was very old fashioned, as she was raised that way, with other Cherokee native influences, such as the belief of many “superstitions”. She was a wild soul that could not be tamed. Many tried, and she showed them that SHE was the boss. She was a very strong willed woman and had a charismatic personality. The family has many stories of her youth. Louise did have a wild side, but as she aged she later found her way back to the Lord. After that, Louise became a very devout Christian and turned away from her wilder days of her youth. She frequented a Baptist church many times in the Tahlequah area and also was known to go to an old one room Pentecostal church. If any one was in need, Louise was sure to help, and would even give her shirt off her back if needed. Louise loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a large group of both, so always said, “give me that baby”. She loved celebrating her birthday with her family. It was a time for everyone to come visit, play dominoes, and spend time together. It was a family reunion every year, as there are “birthday twins” in the family with all those grandchildren. Just two years ago, two GREAT grandchildren were born on the same day, keeping in the unplanned tradition. Louise was blessed with a very large and loving family. Louise spent the last decade in the Nowata Nursing Center in Nowata, Okla. She kept to her old spit-fire ways, and kept all the staff on their toes and made sure they knew how to do their jobs. She loved to play dominoes with anyone that would play. She could still whip even the young grandsons in her “old age”. Even with Alzheimer’s and dementia, Louise had a knack for numbers and loved to count. The Lord called Louise home on January 5th, 2021 in the wee morning hours in Nowata, Okla. As was fitting, for Louise was an early riser! She was 78 years “young”. The running joke was that Louise would “outlive us all”, as she was too full of life and too stubborn to give in.

Louise is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, her babies Charlie and Lavone, her former husbands, brothers Jerry, Charlie, and Haskell Pack, and one great grandchild Harper L. Presley.

Louise is lovingly remembered by her siblings Melvin, Sue and Patricia, children Archie L. Davis and wife Karen of Delaware, OK, Johnny W. Davis Sr. and wife Tina of Bartlesville, OK, Larry Wofford and wife Brenda of Tahlequah, OK, David Wofford and wife Tina of Welling, OK, Taunia Marie Hicks and husband Albert of Nowata, OK, and Phyllis Tinnin and husband Cecil of Tahlequah, OK. Louise lives on in her twenty-two grandchildren, seventy-four great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, kinfolk, and friends.
