Stillwater, OK- Funeral services for Lorene Bunny-Baker will be held on March 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with reverend Pat Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah, OK.
Pallbearers for Lorene baker include Patrick Stewart, Thomas Stewart, David Stewart, Jordan Bayhylle, Tyler Baker, and Tristan Scott. Honorary pallbearers include Alfred Frejo, Donnie Chalepah and Robert Smith.
Lorene Bunny Baker was born on June 10, 1941 in Carson, OK the daughter of Edward Eugene Scott and Rosanna Kanard and raised by her adopting mother, Sally Benson Bunny. Lorene, or Bunny as she was known to her friends, graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1960. She then began her college attending Cowley County Community College, Oklahoma State University, Meridian Junior College in Mississippi, and Mississippi State University studying Business Management. On September 14, 1962, she married Jim Baker in Anadarko, OK, a marriage lasting forty nine years. This union was blessed with one son and three daughters. Bunny worked for and retired from the U.S. Indian Health Service as a purchasing agent. When Bunny wasn’t working, she enjoyed anytime spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She loved watching sports on T.V. especially Oklahoma State University Cowgirls. Even better, was watching her own children and grandchildren playing sports. She would travel miles just to watch and support her family in their endeavors. She enjoyed listening to country music and was fond of Vince Gill. She was a Baptist by faith was a member of Thewarle Indian Baptist Church. The Lord called Bunny to her final rest on March 10, 2011 in Oklahoma City with her family and niece at her side. She was sixty nine years old. Bunny will be missed for all her love and devotion she showed to her family and many friends.
Bunny is preceded in death by her son, Ted Baker , her mother Rosanna Powell, her father ed Scott, adoptive mother Sally Benson Bunny, seven brothers, James Bunny, Abraham Bunny, Clarence Bunny, George Bunny, Newman Bunny, Wilson Powell, and David Scott and one sister, Irene bunny Odom.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jim baker of Stillwater, OK, three adored daughters, Cheryl Smith of Stillwater, OK, Melanie Baker of Stillwater, OK, and Tonya Smith and husband Robert of Tahlequah, OK. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Tyler Baker of Stillwater, OK, Marisa Smith and Heather Smith both of Tahlequah, OK, adopted grandchildren Bobby Burris and companion Tristan Scott and their son Jarrod of Stillwater, OK, Sevet West and husband Jerome and their children, Brandy, Lance, and Lovie, Lavene Burns and companion Gary Walker and children Gage and Simon, Bernice Hammer and husband Shane and child Jordan, three brothers, J.C. Kanard, Ed Scott Jr., Ronnie Scott, and Sandy Powell, sister and Bonnie Powell Johnson and adopted daughter Cheryl Overacker as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
