Marion Ed Jumper, or Ed to his many friends and family, was born on Monday, February 1st, 1954, in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Willie and Minnie (Handle) Jumper. He was raised in a family of 8 brothers and five sisters, Rocky, Rosie, Mary Jo, Alice, Carol and Sandra. He attended Tenkiller Elementary School , and graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1972. Ed then attended Northeastern State University, and graduated in 1976. ED was a gifted Cherokee language Translator and Consultant. He was always happy to teach the Cherokee Language to classes, and to keep the language alive. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage, and all the traditions that came with being Cherokee. He was even more proud of his family, every niece and nephew was like a child to Ed. He constantly prayed for their safety and well being. There was nothing better than the chance to gather and share a picnic, some watermelon, and relax the day away. Ed was a Christian by faith, and attended a wide variety of churches sharing his talent with Gospel Songs in Cherokee. He was a prayer warrior, and never failed to pray for those who asked for prayer, and those that didn’t. His heart was open to many, and he knew no strangers. The Lord called this selfless servant home from his labors on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 in Tulsa, OK. He was 65 years old.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Charley and Sall (Oolonastke) Jumper, brothers, Russel Jumper, Franklin Lee Jumper, Watt Jumper, Buster Jumper, Willie Jumper and Jerry Jumper and sister Lillie Hess and niece Alicia Jumper as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is fondly remembered by his brother, Franklin “Rocky” Jumper and wife Melissa of little Kansas, OK, and five sisters, Rosie Rossignol of Tahlequah, Mary Jo Jumper of Oaks, Alice Wilder and husband Brian of Inola, OK, Carol Dunn and husband Franklin of Tahlequah, and Sandra Whitecrow of Tahlequah. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
