Mrs Carol Warden Jean Brown Winsett

Carol Jean Brown Winsett was born to Clara Myrtle Gardner Brown Harmon and Carl Hermon Brown on May 6, 1940 in Moody, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. She passed on from this life on January 28, 2020 at the age of 79 years, 8 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day in Stilwell, Adair County, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Ray Winsett Sr., her parents Carl Herman Brown and Clara Myrtle Gardner Harmon and Step Dad Robert Harmon, her granddaughters Tina Faye Caudill, Cassandra Michelle Winsett, Grandson Lloyd Thomas Wilson Jr., and great grandson Cole Colt Pruegert, son in law Herbert Gary Don Neugin, brothers Donnie Edward Brown and Calvin James Brown. She leaves behind 2 sisters, Cloretta Laster and husband Vernon of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Clova Berry and husband Richard of Pomona, Kansas, twin brothers Coy Brown and wife Darlene of Olathe, Kansas, Carlos Brown and wife Joyce of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves behind 4 sons and 1 adopted son, Jessie Winsett and wife Margaret of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Elmer Ray Winsett Jr. of Watts, Oklahoma, Billy Winsett Sr and wife Sara of Morris, Oklahoma, James Winsett of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, David Winsett and wife Rhiannon of Hulbert, Oklahoma. She leaves behind one step daughter Sue Garner of Muskogee, Oklahoma and 4 daughters Earlene Wilson and Husband Lloyd Sr. of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Barbara Barron of Stilwell, Oklahoma, Denise Watson and husband Michael of Keys, Oklahoma and Linda Hobbs and Partner James Baird of Stilwell, Oklahoma. She leaves behind in total 32 grandchildren, 54 great grand children and one great great granddaughter.

Mother was a very good home baker. She loved cooking and baking pies of all kinds. We always had plenty to eat. She made sure of that. We always had a big vegetable garden in the summer. She would can green beans and freeze corn on the cob. She would also can peas, churn butter, and gather country eggs in the summer to sell them to people going to the river to camp. She loved camping, fishing, and being around her family. Her specialty when it came to cooking was homemade biscuits and gravy with fried chicken and fried taters. She loved cooking a pot of brown beans on the wood stove. If we ever got in fights with each other, she would let us fight it out and then she made us hug, kiss, and make up. We were camping one time and we had our cousin Todd with us. He and Ray decided to sleep on the ground by the campfire. Mom had went home so she could bring more food down to the river to us but before she had gotten back, Ray had rolled into the fire in his sleep. Someone hollered, “Ray’s on fire!” Of course, dad got the fire put out before mom got back, however, the blanket was still smoking. Ray had said, I wondered why I was getting so hot. Mom loved life. She loved to crochet, she loved making hats and headbands and blankets for her kids and grandkids. They really were her life. Mom would joke and cut up and act like a kid at times. She loved doing puzzles, and playing cards. She loved it when everyone would pile in somewhere to play cards and eat and have fun together. She was witty. If anyone said something, she would always have a come back for them.

When we lived out on our 50 acres, it was hot one summer day and daddy had grown a bunch of peanuts and we picked the plants out of the ground and tossed them in a wheel barrow. Well, our brother Billy came up missing and we couldn’t find him anywhere. We yelled and yelled and looked and looked. Finally, Earlene found him. He had crawled into the wheel barrow and fallen asleep on top of the peanut plants. Mom felt bad because he had gotten sunburned so she took him in the house and got him fixed up. Our brother James was just barely to the age where he was walking and he had this fly away curly hair. He decided one day that he was going to gather eggs and he found two. He had one in each hand and mom said look at that hair. He looks like a little booger and she started laughing. That became his nickname. Mom thought he was so cute standing there with those two eggs in his hand and his hair all over the place. She enjoyed her flowers and house plants. She would get plants and flowers that she could plant and watch them grow and bloom. She talked about them to anyone and everyone that would listen.

Mom worked as a home health care provider and loved helping people. Some became dear friends to some. She took care of her parents when they got sick and were no longer able to take care of themselves. She cared for them until they passed away. She also did the same for her husband Elmer and one of her granddaughters that passed on from this life. Mom got her first grandchild in 1979 and she wasn’t happy about it at first but she loved that baby girl like she was her own. In April of 1980, she got her second and third grandchildren. She just couldn’t wait to see which one of us would have ours first. She was so excited when Jessie called and said mom we have a girl. She couldn’t wait for them to come home from out of state so she could see the baby. Then came her first grandson. Boy was she so excited. She finally had a grandson. She spoiled them Three really well until more started coming along and she realized she had her hands full of grandchildren. Then came great grandchildren and in December of 2019, she got her first great great granddaughter. She couldn’t wait to see her and she finally got to on Christmas Evening. She told her great granddaughter that she would have to crochet her a blanket. Mom loved all nine of her kids she raised and every one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She didn’t get the chance to really see her great great granddaughter but we know mom would have loved her too. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She will be forever missed, loved, and never forgotten. Mom we all love you dearly and we will be forever grateful to you.
