Alice Cordelia Pittman Davis, or Granny and Grandmoo, was born on July 17th, 1934, the daughter of Thomas Alden and Martha Aarminta (Phelps) Pittman, in Dripping Springs, OK. She grew up in a household with one brother and five sisters, LaVerl, Minnie, Bonnie, Rosa, Barbara, Mary Edna, and Velma. She attended school and then met and married the love of her life and her best friend, James C. “JC” Davis on May 24th, 1954. This union was blessed with 11 sons and 2 daughters. It was a very busy but very happy household. Alice took great pride in the fact she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to spend time out door every chance she had, it was time to go fishing and camping! There was nothing better than a day out side picking wild onions and mushrooms. When meal time rolled around, Alice could be found in the kitchen mixing up some of her signature dishes, Candy Cake, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, crunchy fried potatoes, baked pork chops in gravy, raisin pie, and biscuits so light they melted in your mouth. She was an accomplished seamstress, and made queen and king sized quilts with the most beautiful design and stitching. Her beadwork was well known and her earrings, hat bands, medallions and head bands were known all over the area. Her embroidery was beautiful, and she included a full sized peacock in her work. She was the constant companion of her JC, and together they attended functions for the kids or grandchildren when ever possible, supporting them in everything they did. She had a wicked sense of humor and a quick wit and tongue, you could bet on some serious laughter whenever the family got together. The family enjoyed getting out the board games and playing til all hours of the night. Her quiet time was spent reading her Bible, and then settling in with a good Amish romance. She was a member of the Illinois River Baptist Church, and she never missed the chance to go when she was able. She loved to listen to her ODean sing the old gospel favorites. She never met a stranger and would always go the extra mile to help anyone she could. Her life was not always easy, she and JC had buried four of their babies in infancy. Yet you would never know the way she lived her life, to the fullest and with great joy. Her beloved JC passed in 2009 and Alice continued enjoying time spent with the great and great great grandchildren. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on April 3rd, 2018 at her home in Chewey, OK. She was 83 years old. She leaves a void that will never be filled.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, her husband JC Davis, son Kenneth Eugene Davis, twin sons, Jackie Lee and Johnny Dee Davis, son Donald Wayne Davis, three sisters Minnie Hutson, Velma Mae Pittman, and Mary Edna Snell, one grandchild, Bobby Joe Davis, and one great grandchild, Ridley Ellis Nunn.
