Lester Carter passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the age of 85. He was born on August 10, 1928 in Freestone County, Texas to O-Lester and Oila Carter. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After the service, Lester worked many years as a transport driver for Brown and Root and hauled for many farmers in the Taft area. He enjoyed a good plate of barbeque. What he loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren. Lester will always be remembered as a loving and devoted man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvertia Carter; his parents; son, Lester Carter, Jr.; daughter, Sharon Gwartney; sister, Margie Carter; stepchildren, Barbara Jean Wallace and Willie Oniel Bell.
Lester leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren: Rochelle Bell, Joyce Bullard, Lisa Wallace, Shaunta Raveneau, Tyrone Wallace, Royson Wallace, Andy McClendon, Tasha Wallace, Norman Wallace, Debora Wallace and Tricia Wallace; brother, Altus Carter; sister, Mardesteen Williams; stepchildren: Weltis Wallace, Bettie Richardson and Mary Ann Hinderman; special friend, Isafin Davis; five nieces, eight nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church of Taft. Burial will follow the service at The Palms Memorial Gardens, Portland.
