He is survived by his daughter Deidrie and son-in-law Shawn Knowles; his son Travis R. and daughter-in-law Julie Barlow; his two grandchildren; his sister Sharon and brother-in-law J C Hamilton; his nieces; and his longtime companion Lois Adam.
After high school, Ron joined the US Marine Corps and proudly served as Telegraph Operator until his honorable discharge. He then began his career with Bell South (Qwest). He worked first as a field worker while earning his college degree, and then became a software engineer - a position he enjoyed until his retirement in 2005. He always said he was lucky to have a career doing a job he loved.
Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, hiking and working with his beloved horses. He was an excellent cook and loved serving his delicious dishes to friends and family. Ron enjoyed spending time in Hawaii every year, where he frequently went scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. He was a firearms enthusiast and served as a range officer at the Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club, where he provided instruction in gun safety and shooting courses.
He will be remembered for his exceptional sense of humor, his continuous pursuit of knowledge, his love for outdoor activities and enjoying time with family and friends.
His favorite phrase was “sometimes you're the dog and sometimes you're the hydrant”. This not only made us laugh but it formed part of his life motto that stays with us. Through both his humor and wisdom, he provided many valuable lessons to carry with us in our lives. He will be dearly missed.
