William “Ray” Maher, Jr., 70, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday. A life resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of the University of Texas and retired from AT&T as V.P. of Quality Control after 40 years of service. William was a member of the NRA and the VFW John Vendetti Post. Mr. Maher was an avid golfer and boater. A veteran of the U.S. Airforce, he served two tours during the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart with Clusters and Silver Star, Oak Clusters. Predeceased by his parents, William, Sr. and Dorothy Maher.
William is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Sharon) Maher of Far Hills, NJ; two sons, Brian Maher of Buffalo and Christopher (Elizabeth) Maher of Hightstown, NJ; his former wife and long time friend, Bea Maher-Colin; two brother-in-laws, Joseph and Daniel Sisto; mother-inlaw, Nancy Sisto of North Syracuse; three grandchildren, Jackson Schuetz, Casey Maher, and Fiona Maher; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 8:15 a.m. at FARONE & SON FUNERAL HOME and 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will follow in Onondaga Veterans Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse.
