Peter was born in Queens, New York and graduated from NYU School of Engineering as a Mechanical Engineer, while working full time and supporting a family. He worked for several engineering firms in NYC and on Long Island, in particular, traveling internationally as a Marketing Manager for Metco Joining & Cladding, until his retirement to Florida. After a brief period of restlessness and being a child of the Great Depression, Peter started his own business and worked steadily until the age of 91 as an engineering sales representative for the Southeastern U.S. and Puerto Rico.
As a long-time Syosset resident, Peter was active in the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree Knight), CYO Sports, and Long Island politics for many years, and was instrumental in stopping the further northern development of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway and its devastation to the historic villages of Oyster Bay and Syosset, Long Island.
Pete cherished family, education and hard work above all and his favorite memories were of sitting around a table filled with classic Italian cuisine, surrounded by his extended family, while enjoying long conversations. He taught all four of his children to play baseball, bait a hook, ride a bicycle, change a tire, and block a punch, plus gave them swimming, bodysurfing, and sand castle-engineering lessons at favorite Long Island beaches. He enjoyed traveling, photography, classic Hollywood films and loved music, especially opera, and the songs of Sinatra, Bennett, and Martin. He was deeply proud of his Italian and Albanian ancestry.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Rosette, and his beloved children, Donna (Tony) Gerbosi-DiFulvio, David (Suzanne) Gerbosi, and Darren (Jennifer) Gerbosi, and his adored grandchildren, Andrew (Kara), Rachel, Ryan, Danielle (Michael), Brian, Christina, Nathan, Julia, Sophia and Jack, plus his five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his cherished first wife, Ann Jones Gerbosi, his beloved eldest son, Douglas (Linda) Gerbosi, his sister Tina, brother Dino, and parents, Leonardo and Rachele (Scuracchio) Gerbasi.
