Mary Humphries Evans, age 97, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, in Hoover, AL. Born on January 28, 1927, in Lithonia, GA, Mary was a longtime resident of Sylacauga, AL, where she made a lasting impact on her community through her kindness, dedication, and faith.
A devoted member of Mignon Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Mary served for over 40 years in the Beginner and Nursery Departments, sharing her love and care with countless children. She was also known for her contributions to the church’s Wednesday night meals, cooking and serving with joy for many years.
Mary was an honorary member of the Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary, where she dedicated 25 years as a volunteer Pink Lady, offering comfort and support to patients and their families.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Jack Stewart Evans. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen E. Foote and Patsy N. Evans; two grandchildren, Stephen M. Foote (Ashley) and Mary V. Bowen (Nick); and four great-grandchildren, Margaret Kathryn Boothe, Harold Robert Bowen, McCartney Elizabeth Foote, and Ava Caroline Foote.
Mary’s life was a testament to her faith, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Mignon Baptist Church in Sylacauga, AL, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Her family and friends celebrate a life well-lived and are comforted in knowing she is now at peace with her Lord.
