Childersburg, AL - Funeral service for Jean Maxwell, 87, will be Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist - Childersburg with Rev. Michael Holland officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Childersburg, AL.
Mrs. Maxwell died Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at her residence. She was preceded in death by husband, Lowell Maxwell; sister, Shirley Stevens; mother, Maudine Watts Roy; step-father, Lennie Roy; and father, Arthur William Robinson.
Mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor 3 weeks ago and took her final breath on August 16th. She had a great sense of humor, a mean fast ball, killer dance moves, a passion for shopping and a beautiful brush stroke for her art. Mother taught us many life skills including how to play baseball, cook, sew, dance and the importance of being a good and Godly person. In the neighborhood she was known as the “fun” mom because she let us play! She loved her family fiercely, her friends dearly and reserved judgment for all others. In her later years, she especially enjoyed seeing her "babies" the great-grandchildren and having the family together for holidays. We will miss her joy during these times.
My brothers and I appreciate the prayers and support from family and friends during this difficult time. We are also thankful for the loving care given to her from her sitters, Diane, Daphine, and Helen, and close friends Margaret Ann Hamm and Kay Camp. Thank you also to Comfort Care Hospice who provided mom with care at the end of her life. They were a God-send to mom and the family.
She is survived by two sons, David Lowell (Gayle) Maxwell, Rev. Joel Robert (Karen) Maxwell both of Childersburg; daughter, Dr. Marilyn Maxwell (Rick) Stephens of Fairhope, AL; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and caretaker, Diane Rutherford.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist of Childersburg.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
Donations will be accepted in care of the First United Methodist Church food pantry or general fund.
