Charles Cannon Dykes, was born the youngest child of Reuben Owen and Annalula Dykes, in Louisville, AL, March 20, 1935. He was the last member of his immediate family to pass into eternity on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Bethany House in Auburn, AL.
A most unique individual, he was an extremely gifted artist and musician. However, very humble on both counts. These talents were evident early in his life, and he used them in many ways, including; building doll houses, drawing paper dolls for his nieces, playing jazz piano with an ensemble while attending Auburn University, having a successful career in Television advertising with the Doyne agency in Nashville, Tn, and finally, starting a new career as a design professor at Florida State University, where he poured his knowledge and abilities into his students from 1980 until his retirement in 2002.
His most notable accomplishments, however, were in his service to his country in the United States Air National Guard, through his expressions of love to his brothers and sisters, his many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and most notably, his devotion to caring for his mother, Annalula Dykes, until her death in 1987.
Charles has left this life with the full and wonderful knowledge of the love felt for him by all of those he leaves behind, and is now in the loving presence of God, and all of those who have gone before him.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga, AL. The service will immediately follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Radney-Smith Chapel, with Rev. Steve McInnis officiating.
