It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the loss of our daughter, sister, aunt, and mother, Sharon Marie Sears. She passed away on October 6, 2021, in the Palliative Care Unit of The Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Sharon was born in St Rita’s Hospital on March 25, 1965, to Josephine (Mac Lean) Sears and to the late Cameron G. Sears. She is survived by her daughter Hannah Teresa Sears, her sister Catherine Sears, her brothers Cameron Sears and Joseph Sears, and her much beloved dog, Max.
She will be deeply missed by her nephews Brandon (Alaina) Sears, Garrett (Tara) Sears, John Sears and niece Josie Sears. She was pre-deceased by her grandparents; Teresa (MacNeil) MacLean, Daniel J MacLean, Hannah (Carroll) Sears, and Andrew B. Sears.
Sharon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at St Francis Xavier University. She spoke fondly and joyfully of the many professors and friends she met there. After graduating, she moved to Toronto where she spent thirteen years working with handicapped adults. Her concern and patience for marginalized and disadvantaged persons was nurtured and grown during the years she spent in Ontario. Upon her return, she graduated from The Cape Breton Business College where she subsequently taught for one year.
The light in Sharon’s eyes always reflected her love of Hannah and the children she was tending to. She was forever known to be volunteering. Whether feeding children in an elementary school Breakfast program or volunteering with the dance moms, Sharon’s love and care was always focused on the needs of children. Between fundraising, trips to competitions, helping with costumes, and cheerleading, there was never a dull moment in her work or a laxness in her helping heart.
For the many of us who are feeling her loss and missing her generous and loving spirit, they remain:
“They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were. They are now wherever we are.” -St John of Chrysostom
