It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Roger Slaney on Sunday June 24, 2018 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Roger was born in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland to Herb and Therese Slaney on May 15, 1960.
Roger was a man of various talents. He was an accomplished musician who shared his love of music by teaching others to play the guitar and played with many bands over the years. He was a talented soccer player and coach in his younger years. In his 30 year career with the Canadian Coast Guard; he was highly respected by his peers and was presented with immediate awards for his performance on the job. But most importantly, he was a loving man with a fantastic sense of humour and boundless compassion. People always felt that he "had their back" and he always made them feel like they had a special connection. He was a wonderful husband, son, father, brother, and friend.
Roger was predeceased by his father Herb Slaney and is survived by his wife Valerie, his sons Ryan (Krista) and Tristan and his mother Therese as well as his siblings Christina (Jacques) Perrot, Gary Slaney, Rudy (Karen) Slaney, Lisa (Jim) Loder, Sonia (Andy) Slaney, Rodney (Barb) Slaney, and Claudia (Frank) Brockerville.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2 pm at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel to be followed by a reception at the Canadian Coast Guard College. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
In August 2018 a service will be held in St. Lawrence where his ashes will be be put in his final resting place.
