Mary Casilda Parago (nee Porier), died peacefully on August 27, 2024. Casey was born August 11th, 1927 to Florence Boyd and Stanley Poirier in Cambridge Massachusetts, USA. After Stanley's death in 1928, Florence returned to River Bourgeois where Casey became a sister to Lucille Poirier and later to Patricia Morrison (Smith) after Florence married Thomas Morrison. Attending O.L.A. Convent High School then Mount Saint Bernard, Casey received a secretarial diploma and gained employment with Revenue Canada in Halifax and Sydney. She also worked for CN Telegraph and for many years was a member of the CB Highlanders Militia. In 1957 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Casilda married Donald Parago. Residing in Sydney River the couple chose to adopt their two children Paul Stephen (Nancy) and Brenda Marie. The family grew with grandchildren Jordan, Cora (James), Mackenzie, Casey (Logan) and Carson. Casey lived a full life. She played tennis, golfed and bowled and loved to play most card games. She was an avid gardener, and her harvests fed many friends and family since her home was the center of most family gatherings. She enjoyed her 50 years of working and companionship as a member of Our Lady of Fatima CWL. Time spent with children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives was always Casey’s life breath. Her generous spirit meant there was always a sweet treat on hand, and she was quick with her smile, entertaining with her stories and unsparing with her laugh. She had a sparkle in her eye that made you feel that you were witnessing true pure joy. Casey was predeceased by her parents, her husband (Don) and her sisters. She is survived by her beloved children and cherished grandchildren, relatives, Mary Norris and many dear friends. Casilda expressed special thanks to Janet Smith, Deirdre Boyd, Patsy Munroe, Teresa Agnew, and Carmel MacDonald (deceased). The family wish to thank the staff of MacGillivary Guest Home for the care they provided to Casilda during her stay over the last year. A visitation will be held from 2 until 4pm on Tuesday, Sep. 3 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney with a Funeral Mass taking place at 11:00am on Wednesday, Sep. 4 at Our Lady of Fatima.
